[onscreen] What's this talk about 'Bundling' insurance?
Interviewer: So, all over the TV now you're seeing stuff about 'bundling'. What is bundling in regards to insurance?
Steve: Well, very simply, bundling is insuring your car, and your home, with the same insurance company.
[onscreen] Keep it all in one place!
Steve: That's really all it is.
Interviewer: Are there benefits to that?
Steve: There are benefits. One thing is that it might be convenient for you.
[onscreen] convenience
Steve: Your policies have the same expiration date, so it's easier to keep track of. There are discounts for multi policy. Having your home insured saves you money on your car.
[onscreen] Save money
Steve: Having your car insured saves money on your home. So, it can save you some money, and it might be a little more convenient for you.
Interviewer: Are there disadvantages to bundling?
[onscreen] Disadvantages?
Steve: Well, believe it or not there is. Number one, it may not be cheaper at all. It sounds nice, but it may not save you any money. And if one of your policies should get cancelled by the insurance company, you may not like that and decide to move your other policy away from them as well. So, in some cases, bundling has some advantages, and sometimes it doesn't.
Interviewer: Well, there's even been something on TV about Name your Price. What does that mean?
[onscreen] Name Your Price?
Steve: We have a Name your Price tool. And, what that simply means is that you can tell us how much money you want to spend on your car insurance, and we will tell you how much coverage you can buy for that price. Basically that's it. If you don't want much coverage, it doesn't cost much money. If you want more coverage, well that costs more money.
Interviewer: So, if I had my home and my car as a bundle, what if I add something else, like a motorcycle or a boat? Does that count towards a bundle?
Steve: It can. It can certainly count as just another policy. Most insurance companies now give you a discount, called a multi policy discount.
[onscreen] Multi-Policy Discounts
Steve: And the more things that you insure, the more discounts they give you. So, like you just mentioned, you have your motorcycle, and your car, and your home, and your boat, you'd get a discount on each one of those policies. Again, if those policies were expensive to start with, and you got a little discount, well they may not be as reasonable as just a completely separate policy on that motorcycle, or that boat, or that house, or that car. Sometimes yes, sometimes no.
Interviewer: So, being that I have more than one thing to insure, with the house and several cars and a boat and a motorcycle, will Focus look at all of those elements before giving me a price?
Steve: We really do.
[onscreen] All Saving options are considered
And what we do is that, there are companies in the marketplace that insure recreational vehicles, that's what they do - they insure boats and motorcycles and scooters and things of that nature. Those companies often provide a better policy at a lower rate, because that is their specialty. We have those markets, and we will look at those to see if perhaps taking them out of the bundle, is the better way to go. Keep in mind, we do offer all the bundles, whether it's with one company, or with several different companies. So, even though bundling is a good thing, don't be confused as to, 'is it really the best thing for you?'
