Millions of over-50s set for Christmas markets, Saga says

3/12/2012

As many as 5.2 million people over the age of 50 are likely to attend a Christmas market this season, according to Saga.

A Populus survey carried out on 8,524 over-50s on behalf of the organisation stipulated from the sample that 630,000 adventurers would be heading abroad for a festive market.

Travel insurance comparisons can help keep costs to a minimum should a claim be made, with more affordable cover for staying protected while overseas.

Chief Executive of Saga Services Roger Ramsden said: "…It's a good idea to ensure you, your belongings and your money are covered with travel insurance. Christmas shopping should be a happy and fun time looking for gifts for our loved ones, and not a stressful one dealing with unexpected travel problems."

The research also found that half of respondents are attracted to Christmas markets because a fun day of shopping gets them in the festive mood.

A further 45% of sampled Britons said it was an opportunity to pick up a quirky present for their loved ones, with the average spend at UK markets expected to total £34.
